Hi. I am writing to inform you all of my situation and my thoughts regarding moving forward with EMA in Bloomington.
Simply put, if this job and this office were located in Champaign, I would be very excited about continuing to move forward, grow, accept more responsibility and greater challenges with the potential of greater income.
As it is, however, I cannot, in good faith, commit to being an office manager of the Bloomington office. If I were to be, it would only make sense for me to live nearby, to be there every morning, to unlock the doors, hold a meeting, manage the forms and paper work, do the logistics, etc, etc to keep a functioning office going.
I have considered relocating to Bloomington. If it were only me, I would be glad to, no problem. But with kids 8, 13 and 15, it would totally send a wrong message to them, that my priority is work and they are only second place or lower in my life. I could explain that I would see them just as much as I currently do, only I would 'commute' to them instead of to work, but I don't know if they would believe that or understand the nuance of difference. They would just clearly see that 'Dad just moved away.'
So I can't relocate to Bloomington, because really, they are my priority. I love them and want to raise them and invest in them during this season of my life and theirs.
I like this job because it offers me the opportunity to make a lot of money, which would help me in many ways to provide a better life for them. And as I said, if I could do this job, and run an office in Champaign, where I could work long and hard and still be close to my kids, it would seem like an ideal job.
As things currently stand, I have received a job offer from the University of Illinois. I would like to accept this and move ahead with that position. Nothing is finalized yet. I am just giving you a heads up about my process at the moment.
I would like to continue working for EMA and selling DE products door to door in my available time slots. The money is good, and I am continuing to slowly improve my sales skills. If possible, I'd like to have a work schedule that looks more like Rico's, working in various available time slots and days.
That's it for now. Nothing is set in stone. Just an update for you on my situation, thoughts and process. But I thought it would be important for you to know what's going on in my life and thought process, as you continue to work toward and make plans for a thriving Bloomington office.
Sincerely,
Greg Purnell
